Getting started
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
Most insurance plans, including Medicare, need a physician’s order for wound care. If you do not have one, call us and we will help you request it from your doctor.
Does insurance cover wound care at home?
Many plans cover wound care visits when a physician orders them. We check your benefits before the first visit and tell you about any cost up front.
How often will you visit?
Most patients are seen once a week. Some wounds need more frequent visits at first. Your plan is reviewed and adjusted at every visit.
How long does it take for a wound to heal?
It depends on the type of wound, its size, circulation, blood sugar and nutrition. Many chronic wounds improve within weeks with consistent care. We measure every visit so you can see progress.
Do you see patients in assisted living or skilled nursing facilities?
Yes. We visit homes, board-and-care homes, assisted living communities and skilled nursing facilities, and we work alongside facility staff.
What should I have ready for the first visit?
Your insurance card, a list of your medications, recent notes from your doctor if you have them, and any dressing supplies you are using now.
Is this a replacement for emergency care?
No. If a wound shows signs of a serious infection, such as fever, fast-spreading redness or confusion, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
Visits & how care works
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
You can call us yourself. Treatment needs a doctor’s order, so if you don’t have a referral yet, we will reach out to your doctor for you.
How soon can the first visit happen?
It depends on your insurance check and our schedule in your area. We will give you a clear time once your coverage is verified, usually within [X] days.
How often will a clinician come?
Most patients are seen about once a week. Your doctor’s order and how the wound is doing decide the exact schedule.
Will my doctor know what is happening?
Yes. We send progress notes to your referring doctor, including wound measurements. We call your doctor if the plan needs to change.
Insurance & cost
Does Medicare cover mobile wound care?
Medicare may cover wound care visits when a doctor orders them and they are medically necessary. Coverage depends on your plan, so we check your benefits before the first visit.
Do I have to be homebound?
Rules about being homebound depend on the type of care and your plan. We will check what applies to you when we verify your coverage.
What if my plan is not on your list?
Call us anyway. We can check your plan and let you know your options before any visit is scheduled.
Will I get a bill I didn’t expect?
We work hard to avoid that. We explain what we know about your costs before care starts. If your plan or coverage changes, please let us know right away.
Patients & families
Does someone need to be home with the patient?
It helps, especially for the first visit. If the patient can answer questions and let us in, a family member doesn’t have to be there for every visit.
Can you visit a parent who lives in a board-and-care home?
Yes. We visit board-and-care and assisted living homes. We work with the staff there so everyone knows the care plan.
Who brings the wound supplies?
It depends on your care plan and your insurance. We will explain how supplies are ordered and who provides them before care starts.
What if the wound gets worse?
Call us or your doctor right away. We may change the plan with your doctor’s approval. For an emergency, call 911.
Referring providers
Who can refer a patient?
Physicians, podiatrists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, home health agencies, hospital discharge planners and care facilities can all refer. Patients and families can also call us directly.
Do you need a signed order before the first visit?
Yes. Treatment is physician-ordered. If the referral doesn’t include a signed order, we will contact your office to get one.
How will I receive progress notes?
By fax or another secure method you choose. Tell us your preference when you send the referral.
Do you take patients in skilled nursing and assisted living facilities?
Yes. We see patients at home, in board-and-care and assisted living homes and in skilled nursing facilities across Los Angeles County.
Care facilities
What types of facilities do you work with?
Skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities and board-and-care homes in Los Angeles County.
Who orders the wound treatment?
The resident’s physician. We treat under physician orders and call the physician before changing the plan.
Can you train our staff?
Yes. We offer practical training on wound checks, dressing changes and pressure injury prevention. Ask us about scheduling a session for your team.
Does working with you make our facility compliant?
No outside partner can do that for you. Our notes are written to support your team’s documentation, but compliance stays with your facility’s own policies and care.
Ready to get a wound looked at?
Tell us about the wound and we will call you to schedule a visit at home or at the facility. Physicians and facilities can send a referral online or by fax.
